Half Gradings: If the jump between belts feels too big, we offer half gradings where you can earn a coloured tag towards your next belt. Our aim is to make kickboxing and martial arts accessible to everyone. Between Brown and Black belt, you will grade for Black Tag 1 and Black Tag 2 to show your dedication towards your black belt.
What to Expect
HOW GRADINGS
WORK
BEFORE THE GRADING
- Bow as you enter the dojo
- Come in quietly, get ready, warm up and stretch
- When called, line up in your correct ranks
- The instructor will read the class oath
- You will be monitored in lessons leading up to your grading as well as during the grading itself
HOW YOU ARE SCORED
- Gradings use a points system — you receive a results sheet with areas to improve, areas of strength, and a pass or fail result
- Attendance and attitude to learning are factored in
- Your position in the club matters — higher belts are expected to be role models
- Instructor perceptions from weekly sessions count — grading day is just one small part of your overall score
Important: Gradings are an opportunity to demonstrate progress, discipline and understanding. We want every student to succeed — and we support each individual at their own pace. However, a belt will never just be handed to you. You must earn it!
